Welcome back to Dom Discusses. Today, Emil “Magisk” Reif, the man who is the real X-factor for Astralis because he can always be relied upon to finish off and tidy up what his teammates fail to complete. He has had excellent statistics, featuring no negative LAN events with Astralis, cementing him as one of the team’s most important performers.
Magisk’s professional career in Counter-Strike started in 2015 with team123. He was notably on SK Gaming’s Danish roster, before making his way onto Dignitas, who then subsequently joined North. When he was first recruited to Dignitas, Magisk was an up-and-coming Danish superstar who many thought would be destined to join Denmark’s top team; they weren’t wrong. Before he reached the top, however, he made a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it stint in OpTic’s ill-fated European mix team experiment. After that brief mistake, he received the call from Astralis due to Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjaerbye’s shocking departure to North. Afterwards Magisk joined the team, which many people were surprised about, having expected Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke to replace Kjaerbye, but k0nfig eventually opted for OpTic.
Astralis have been on fire for a majority of the year, and Magisk has been a large part of that. He’s put up stellar statistics, especially on Inferno. For example, at DreamHack Masters Stockholm, Astralis got upset by North 16-10 on Inferno, one of Astralis’ best maps. Magisk had a 1.15 HLTV rating, and the second best on his team was 1.02. Recently, Astralis have been decimating Liquid in the Grand Finals of tournaments; Magisk has always stepped up on Inferno. For example, in the Final of the ELEAGUE Premier, he had a 1.80 rating on the map. He is best on the CT side, where he plays on the A site, usually towards pit. I think he is the best pit player in the world; he’s unable to be broken. Liquid won one T side round in that game, a round in which they went B.
Magisk is insane on pistol rounds. In the ELEAGUE Premier Grand Final, on the first pistol round on Inferno, he got 4k, with 2 ridiculous running spray shots. In a recent match on Mirage against North at DreamHack Masters Stockholm, Magisk saved his team in the opening pistol round with 4 kills when the round seemed to be done and dusted. Magisk can win rounds other players can’t and that is what makes him special. Magisk won that round for Astralis, as he does on many rounds.
Overall, Magisk is an insane young star with scary potential because he has bags of confidence along with skill which will take him very far. He is conquering Counter-Strike with the best team in the world with Astralis. He’s the rock for his team to rely on thanks to his amazing stats, the X-factor for Astralis thanks to his explosive rounds, and the difference maker for Astralis due to his ability to rescue situations that are seemingly lost. Magisk is a magnificent player and without him, Astralis wouldn’t be anywhere near as good as they are now.
