Under the Spotlight – Cloud9

Cloud9 have been suffering, and it’s time for change.

Welcome to Under the Spotlight, a series where I discuss a team and their problems, then proceed to suggest my fixes for said problems. Today, I am going to talk about Cloud9. The Major champions have fallen apart piece by piece, with their future in doubt.

Roster: Skadoodle, STYKO (loan until the end of September), Golden, autimatic, RUSH

Cloud9, after the departure of Jake “Stewie2K” Yip, have been in total disarray. The team hasn’t achieved a placing higher than 7-8th on LAN since March of this year. Despite winning a major just a month prior. Cloud9 initially brought in Pujan “FNS” Mehta to stabilise the team and bring in leadership, but he lasted two months before he was removed due to in-game differences. Martin “STYKO” Styk was recruited to help support the team’s stars, and the future looked brighter. Then the worst happened: Tarik “tarik” Celik requested to join mibr; off he went. He linked up with Stewie2K and the legendary Brazilian trio of Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo, Marcelo “coldzera” David and Fernando “fer” Alvarenga. After that fateful day, it’s gone from bad to worse for Cloud9 results wise. Maikil “Golden” Selim has joined as the new IGL, and while this is a good pickup, it’s clear that the team lacks firepower.

This is how I would fix Cloud9. I would start off with the removal of Tyler “Skadoodle” Latham because I think he’s largely inconsistent and Cloud9 needs some level of stability. Since the departure of Stewie2K, he has had one positive LAN event. He consistently underperforms, and has shown himself to be missing under Golden’s leadership; therefore, it’s time to go. I think that the replacement should be Matt “Wardell” Bowman. Under Joshua “steel” Nissan, he’s been excellent, with an HLTV rating of 1.18 in the past 3 months. This proves that proper leaders improve players; something Golden has already done. Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson grew under Golden’s young mind; I think Wardell can do the same under Golden, as he has under steel. Either way, I think my change greatly helps Cloud9 find consistency and life again.
