jdm64 – The Forgotten Man

jdm64 is in limbo.

In today’s feature, I am going to discuss Josh “jdm64” Marzano, a man whose Counter-Strike career is in limbo, and it shouldn’t be.

After the ELEAGUE Boston Major, jdm64 was removed from Team Liquid in favour of Keith “NAF” Markovic, a move which has benefitted Liquid. Many community members argued that jdm64 was the person to be removed; something I agree with because he had gone extremely inconsistent, especially on LAN. Furthermore, by the time Liquid removed him he had stopped being the X-factor for the team and the impact he had on games had largely dwindled to the point he was a bit-part player. Many expected him to bounce quickly onto a new team, but that didn’t happen.

It’s now August, and one of NA’s top 5 AWPers is a teamless free agent. His contract with Liquid expired in June. So why haven’t NA teams cashed in an upgrade? Well, teams that jdm64 would choose to join such as NRG already have good AWPers. NRG have Tsvetelin “CeRq” Dimitrov, C9 are no longer interested in jdm64, Liquid have just removed him and Ghost cannot compete in Majors. This leaves jdm64 with one option left which is to move to Europe; it’s unknown whether he’s unwilling to move to Europe or simply hasn’t had any suitable offers.

However, jdm64 is rumoured to be back in competition soon. A Reddit post showed a leaked Discord screenshot which shows jdm64 saying in his private Discord server that he will “be on a team in the next Pro League, for sure.” Of course social media grabs cannot be taken as fact, so take it with a pinch of salt. I don’t really take that Reddit screenshot too seriously as jdm64 could easily be baiting. In my opinion, it’s hard to understand why teams such as coL don’t give him a shot; he got on well with Peter “stanislaw” Jarguz on Liquid, and stanislaw and current coL AWPer Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan fell out in the original OpTic roster. I personally believe he’ll end up on coL because ShahZaM and stanislaw have clashed in the past, and I expect it to happen again, leaving jdm64 as the obvious option.
